Simple Pleasures

When it's all said and done at the end of the day
and you think of all that really matters,
I am sure you will agree with me, here
It's the simple pleasures of life that will stay
forever etched in your mind,
Impressed on your soul for all time ...

Those seemingly inconsequential ones
We've all grown to love and expect,
The 'thank yous' the 'how are yous?'
the 'I miss yous' and 'love you always'
The courteous phone call to let the other know,
You've reached your destination safely
or have just arrived home.
The unexpected gift sent anonymously to a friend in need,
The shoulder to cry on, the ears lent to listen
The bear hug when all else fails,
The quick bite to eat, the movie night treat,
A hand held in silence
The comforting smile,
All these and more, just to show how much you care ...

It's not always in the big, flashy dinners
Or nights on the town, 'dressed to kill'
Broadway or Operas or those formal affairs
Limousines and taxis, door men and valets
Grand when they happen, but not the usual fare...

If you love another, understand this timeless fact
The simple pleasures of life
Are where it's really at! I'd say!
