A Poets Song

Wrapped around this heart of time
Beats a song yet to be sung,
In the fullness of all we can be
And all that ever was,
And tho' we may be somewhat worn for wear
The notes are still in key,
Carried along by hushed whispered thoughts
Familiar melody,
Regardless of creed or tongue
Remains the same throughout the ages,
Weaving tapestries alive in the noonday sun
Monuments for all to read and stand in awe ...

For we recognize the blend of those shaded hues
That binds us all and gives us pause as we carry on,
Ever vigilant at the ready,
Soldiers we, in this shared crusade
On the frontline and we must agree,
If we succeed, it's because of you and I
But not alone,
For an army we've become,
Marching onward, ever forward
To reach that rising sun,
So we can take our turn to bask in victory,
Knowing that together
We stay strong
Memories replete,
We save them everyone
So tenderly,
And savor sweet our celebration feast
Enjoyed by all who know this song,
Every note
And every key ...

Perfect ALisa!!...I would change two things, mostly because it is that kick in that rare Cognac...

Knowing that together,
We stay strong...

A pause in that line gives it, well..(pause)

strength! The other is the final line...

Every note
and every key.

This keeps the wolves, of a change in tempo far away...But it is a beautiful poem and subject..so proud of ya...keep it going...then I might let ya bring back a rainbow or two..LOL

Review:
Every note and every key of every poets song for sure... there is so much in this poem that really rings so true my friend, it has been a real pleasure learning what there is in poetry even from an amature site such as this, it's more than that in so many ways, we know it, and this poem you did well in concluding your postings with the site, and as well as I know you will continue to write after this here, and can't wait to read them in books sometime, awesome done!!

This is an excellent Free Verse poem. Yes, indeed, every word spoken in the true spirit of the muses, the poets’ watering hole, absolutely. The opening unit brings to the fore in a nutshell what the theme of the poem is all about; such a magnificent Preface or Prologue for the poem.

I find these lines as well, very striking indeed, for therein resides the essence of the poets’ song:

“And tho' we may be somewhat worn for wear
The notes are still in key,”

“Regardless of creed or tongue
Remains the same throughout the ages,
Weaving tapestries alive in the noonday sun
Monuments for all to read and stand in awe” ...

“For we recognize the blend of those shaded hues
That binds us all and gives us pause as we carry on,
Ever vigilant at the ready,”

Within these selected lines the poet’s narrator shows:

(1) The steadfastness or resilience of poets both past and present in staying the course amid any paradigm shift, which quite naturally brings many anxious moments. Poets always take these challenges in good stride and forever press on with every part of their being on the plow. This is what the persona is alluding.

(2) Regardless of what genre, style or form selected by the poet, the creative capacity (woven tapestries) shall always shine throughout the ages (monuments) for generations now and to come. Great prophetic muse uttered so eloquently by the persona.

(3) Regardless of the many forks placed in the road on which poets must traverse, they will never retreat. And what a striking metaphor (the idea of soldiers on a crusade marching forward wherever that vast ocean, the mind will lead them) is planted here that brings the vividness of the imagery to the mind, the steadfastness of the poets’ psychic.

Then in the ending lines (I would put a line break between “To reach the rising sun” and “So we can take our turn to bask in victory,”) the persona is admonishing poets to stay together and create that united front because as they say ‘united we stand...divided we fall’; with this united front what is there to stop poets from basking in the glory having won the victory! Nothing! Why, because poets know the “song...every note and key”.

There was much subdued emotion seeping through this poem, which I dub the “poets’ doxology” for I cannot think of a better term. The imagery is rich with a rhythmic and lyrical cadence, this greatly enhanced by alliteration applied and the smooth, gentle flow of each word coming out of the persona’s mouth. The tone was inspiring and surly provided the motivational tool as it were, for poets confronted with life challenges. I found this poem to be most appropriate at this time and an enjoyable read as well because I too “know the song, every note and every key.” Thank you for sharing your artistry so very well.

Wow!! this is certainly a song from the heart. I could feel the love and passion in each beautifully penned word. As I read this it really moved the heart and soul. We as poets are like an army, a brotherhood of sorts. You have been such a blessing to so many lives. This piece is a great Testament of that. thanks for sharing. Love David
